Overwhelmed by the support and encouragement of the local music community, Claire is grateful and honoured to have been chosen as the soloist with the Nanaimo Chamber Orchestra as this marks the first time she will have the opportunity to showcase an entire concerto. Claire started playing the cello eight years ago and never imagined that at age 16, she would be devoting her life to the art of music. Helena Jung has been her primary teacher with additional guidance from Dr. Hyun Min Lee this past year. She has attended numerous summer camps, including CYMC, Sea to Sky Chamberfest at VAM, VCM intensive and most recently, the Boston University Tanglewood Institute. At home in Courtenay, Claire currently sits as the principal cellist of the Strathcona Symphony Orchestra and joined the North Island Choral Society orchestra for their spring concert. Not only is Claire an avid orchestral musician, but she is also passionate about chamber music and has played with numerous chamber groups through summer programs as well as collaborations with esteemed local musicians. Claire’s love for chamber music has led her to organize and perform a variety of charity concerts, right from her first year of cello and continues to form ensembles to share music with the community. This summer, Claire is excited to attend both the PRISMA and Le Domaine Forget de Charlevoix academies to hone her skill, as well as perform as the young musician at the Quadra Island Festival of Chamber Music. In between all the musical activities, she enjoys squash, basketball, cross stitching, crocheting and time with friends.

"Musical Revelry" will present our Concerto Competition winner, Claire Mindell, playing Haydn's Cello Concerto No. 2. The programme also includes music by Vivaldi, Bach, Schubert, and others. More details coming soon!
